WHAT a shame that we appear to have lost a great majority of birds from our gardens.

Usually in late August and winter many fly to warmer climes, but where are the blackbirds, tits, starlings and sparrows?

Our bird tables are always laden with nuts, fatballs and birdseed, but this year it has been rarely touched.

The goldfinches have not been seen since September and apart from a lone pigeon yesterday and a robin last week, that is it.

We haven’t seen a thrush for years and the pair of small doves who came regularly up to August, have not been seen since.

So I repeat again. Where are the birds?
