I WORK in the city centre and sometimes use the number 4 bus to get to work. One morning last month, I boarded the number 4 bus at the stop outside Foxwood Lane shops.

When we arrived at another stop, a young man tried to board the bus using a pass. The driver was under the impression that the man was not permitted to use this pass on journeys before 9am. The man explained that he had used the pass several times previously before 9am. The driver decided to radio to ask for help.

The driver asked the man what type of pass it was and asked why he was entitled to it. He explained that he was disabled, to which, the driver replied: “Well, you don’t look disabled.”

I couldn’t believe what I had just heard. I was shocked to hear something so hurtful. Moody drivers getting angry when you try to pay for a return with a £5 note is nothing compared to what I saw that day.
