THE big six fuel companies, four of which are foreign-owned, are ripping us off, causing fuel hardship to struggling families.
People may well die as they are forced to choose between heating their homes or eating. As winter gets colder, many more will die.
Fuel should be nationalised!
George Appleby, Leighton Croft, Clifton, York.
• According to York Older People’s Assembly, fuel poverty has doubled in York. City of York council tell us 6,500 homes fail to meet energy efficiency standards. Poor quality homes owned by private landlords are also damaging the health of York people.
Why? In the 21st century you would have thought we could find solutions to all problems affecting the poorest in society.
This is just in York.
Magnified by the rest of the UK, it is a scandal that no solutions can be found by some of these overpaid experts and committees on £100,000 plus. Perhaps if you are on £100,000 plus you have no worries and are unaware of “those who will always be with us” – the poor.
If you are in the upper income bracket why should you care about the little people who have to use food banks or have to go to bed early to keep warm.
Dennis Barton, Woodthorpe, York.
