I LIVED in York until 1973 when I moved to Derbyshire for business reasons.

We always had The Press at home and when I return to visit friends and relations, I always buy a copy and it never disappoints.

Saturday November 23 was no exception and the letters were wonderful, chiefly written by people who should get out more.

There was an absolute pearl though from a person who I can only assume was a hermit who had decided to purchase a 19-in television receiver, but had to settle for a 24-in version.

They then went on to complain about the programmes. I took the paper to the pub and it caused hoots of laughter.

A quick census of those present revealed that no one had a television set smaller than 40 inches.

The Press – still the best local paper in the UK.
