Salaries are too high
FURTHER to Mrs G Page (Letters, October 14), once more we see a massive increase in salary for one council executive position.
This is on the pretext of attracting the best. All I can see is that the rest of council executives will request the same policy when their pay is on review.
Remember all of us fund these massive salaries from council tax. Let’s look at the facts: is there a real job in the first place, is it worth the existing salary and is it worth an increase? Answers: probably not, no and no.
Jobs should to be advertised at half this salary. There are, I am sure, plenty of people out there as well qualified, willing and able to fill this position.
The trend is to cut staff, reduce hours and salaries, and amalgamate certain positions to cut costs for frontline council staff. But it seems that the £60,000 to £100,000-plus brigade are exempt.
