Transport of no delight
WE Yorkies are so fortunate. Our ruling Labour group knows what is best for us – just close the main vehicular river crossing within the old city to private users.
Using your Soap Box, our Greenies claim that it makes far more sense not to dual the A1237, when our problems can be best addressed by investing in developing the train line between York and Harrogate… yet the problem faced by far more people in York is getting around the city.
Less than ten years ago, the LibDems presided over Without These Walls. The Dean of York chaired meetings led by York’s then senior planning and development officer.
Those invited – mainly York’s commercial prime movers – were encouraged to vote in favour of significantly increasing York’s population, therefore increasing aggregate demand. All with no mention of improving York’s transport infrastructure, which is inadequate for the current population.
So this is what the four parties represented on City of York Council can do for us. The sooner they are replaced by the independent voice of reason, the better for us.
