The leopard can keep his spots
10:29am Monday 30th September 2013 in Letters
AS a life-long, dedicated animal lover, the thought of wearing the skin of a once living animal always sickened and angered me. However, I recently found such a pretty skirt in a leopard print in a well-known store, not a real skin, of course, and was tempted. Thank you, Maxine Gordon, for your very wise words (Not wild about animalistic attire, September 27). You have saved both my conscience and my purse – I should never have even considered purchasing anything that looks so real. I wish Chessington World of Adventures all the luck in the world – they are absolutely correct in forbidding entry to anyone wearing clothes that might upset an animal, but I wonder how long it will be before some self-righteous person will wear this kind of garment and then whinge about this rule abridging her “human rights”. Some people complain on principle, either looking for publicity or even worse, compensation.
I wait with bated breath to see if I am right. In the meantime I will stick to my principles – we have enough choice in clothing without stooping to emulate animals.
