Poor driving anger
Recently I had a radio microphone waved at me and the roving reporter wanted to know my views regarding motorists over the age of 70 having to retake their driving test. Frankly I saw red at this thought.
The very idea that age seems to indicate lack of driving skills appears abhorrent to me because I have observed that these days – regardless of age – there is a total lack of common road sense.
Even the driving examiners appear to have evolved into a narrow-minded viewpoint, judging by the way they advocate that fledgling candidates must drive at the maximum 60mph on side roads and 70mph on motorways.
Surely you should drive at the speed which conditions dictate and which you feel comfortable with?
What does make some sense however is that all drivers should be encouraged to have advanced driving instruction at some point after their driving test because this can only be a positive step towards safer drivers.
Blanketing all drivers over an age limit as being incapable is purely discrimination and undermines the considerable experience they have accumulated.
