Innovate at home
WHY on earth did City of York Council pay £210,000 in the past three years to staff suspended for gross misconduct (The Press, September 17)?
I was under the impression that the punishment for gross misconduct was instant dismissal. Not, as the case with several council staff, suspended for up to 15 months and still receiving pay.
It was ironic that on the same day the article appeared, Kersten England and James Alexander were in Brussels giving a talk at a European Union Urbact seminar on Social Innovation.
I suggest that these two leaders spend more time innovating the council’s disciplinary rules to stop wasting taxpayers’ money on staff who should have been dismissed, rather than lecturing EU members about their particular philosophies.
