HAS Ed Miliband forgotten that the trade unions founded the Labour Party?
The idea that Miliband is the puppet of the trade unions is no more fanciful than the notion that Cameron and Co are in the pockets of the corporate and financial sectors.
The whole argument is symptomatic of the backward-thinking approach of some union and business leaders, who are still living in the 1950s.
Take a look at the German employment model. The unions are part of the team with common goals for the organisation.
They are not the enemy.
We in Britain narrowly avoided “fire at will” legislation proposed by the Tories, who are also not opposed to zero-hours employment contracts, which are disastrous for our country.
Zero hours = no mortgage, no pension, no savings.
These contracts should be banned, as should the bogus self-employment agency contracts.
We need modern reformed trade unions to help police these areas and rid ourselves of those rogue employers and management teams who show nothing but contempt for their workers.
Mr Miliband should be proud of his party’s roots and not afraid to defend them.
