Make the tourists pay for clean-up
I FEEL I must answer readers who criticise the City of York Council cleaning team.
They always start their letters with: “What must the tourists think about the unclean city?”
Well, I am in town every day and you hardly ever hear an English voice.
Here is one example. Three Chinese students were doing a survey on what York residents thought about the library.
They asked if I was from York and when I said yes, they jumped up and down with excitement. They had been asking for almost two hours before they found someone local.
The point I am making is it is the tourists who are making the most mess. So why, instead of laying the blame on cleaners, don’t we make the tourists pay extra for their hotels, etc, to help with the mess they leave?
