COUN BARBARA BOYCE suggests a late night levy on licensees serving alcohol after midnight (Letters, September 4).
I cannot see this will do anything to solve the problem of drunks infesting our streets.
As far as I know it is still an offence to be drunk and disorderly in a public place, and for licensees to serve drink to someone who is already drunk.
I suspect the police are reluctant to arrest drunks because of the paperwork involved, but a night in the cells and subsequent appearance in court would be a deterrent. Offending licensees would risk losing their licences for repeat offences.
