In despair of council
ON SEPTEMBER 5 I attended the site meeting and planning meeting for the fast-food drive-through restaurant outline approval, with three neighbours (one had taken the afternoon off work to speak for three minutes).
This application was fourth on the agenda. So we had two hours of listening to three other applications.
By four o’clock I had already decided objectors were only permitted to speak as a formality.
From the start it seemed much consultation had been going on between Mr Ellis and the council over compensation in lieu of disruption to his business.
It appears he has been given carte blanche to knock down a domestic dwelling to incorporate with his commercial site to facilitate this fast-food drive-through restaurant.
No reasons were proposed as to why this would enhance the area.
When voting took place, it was not unanimous. Thank you to those councillors who abstained. Maybe they had taken on board all the neighbour’s reservations and objections.
Is there any wonder why the good and honest citizens of York despair and cannot trust the council for what they are doing to what was once a beautiful city with pleasant suburbs and environs?
