CITY of York Council is not happy unless making life difficult for those living in York – so much so they are now disturbing our ancestors at rest in King’s Square.
This is desecration – these York people are supposed to be left alone for perpetuity.
It’s a total disgrace that the council has been allowed to move any remains (The Press, September 6).
We are informed that they have found the foundations of a Victorian church – yet the church foundations had not been lost. Those living and born in York knew the foundations would be there.
I understand that the old cart road leading from Shambles will be removed – more of York’s history thrown into a skip – and half-a-million pounds squandered when we are told the leader needs to find three million.

•IT SEEMS that the Colliergate/King’s Square area is receiving some attention in the form of revamping.
I feel very strongly that the road surface in Colliergate should be taking priority.
Four-and-a-half years ago my sister, who was 83 at the time, had a very nasty fall when crossing that road as it had the most atrocious surface. Despite complaints at the time, there has been no improvement whatsoever.
This November, my sister will be visiting York again and I can only think how disgusted she will be to see that nothing has been done in the intervening years, yet other nearby areas are having time and money spent on them, and, in my opinion, taking away more of old York.
When is the council ever going to get its priorities right?
