IT WOULD seem that D Mcternan hasn’t yet realised why people are remarking on his inappropriate use of his car horn on Malton Road (Letters, September 5).
I regularly use the cycle lane on Malton Road, and have noticed that although the road markings at both the end of Muncastergate and Laburnum Garth are set to place the cycle lane in front of the give-way markings, giving the cycle lane priority over traffic turning on/off the side roads, for some reason this wasn’t painted in at the end of Straylands Grove.
When approaching this junction from Huntington, the exit from Heworth is completely blind for cyclists. This is why many cyclists prefer to return to the road and maintain a safe speed instead of using a portion of sub-standard cycle lane.
To use a car horn when right behind a cyclist is not only dangerous but illegal, as it is aggressive use of the horn. At such close range, a cyclist could wobble and fall off.
What worries me more is there will be other drivers out there with the same dangerous viewpoint.
