A funny sort of empty
WITH regards to the isolated photo of Lendal Bridge (The Press, August 30), two days earlier I was walking on the bridge and in approximately seven minutes I counted 23 forbidden vehicles pass over the bridge.
One of those, I might add, was a council work van. Do they have special privileges?
Whoever took the photo must just been poised and waiting for a few seconds when the road was clear to snap the shot.

• I HAVE a suggestion to help the council out of the current financial black hole they find themselves in.
Anyway even though as a resident of Huntington, the council has effectively added four miles a day on to my commute, I want to help. My suggestion is to use the numberplate-recognition cameras on Lendal Bridge to not only prosecute the hapless motorists who find themselves on the wrong side of the river trying to go about their business but also the hordes of cyclists that daily run the red lights at the junction there, scaring pedestrians who dare to cross when the green man tells them to. I look forward to not only the council recovering its deficit but a reduction in my 2014/15 council tax.
