I REFER to City of York Council’s proposal to only collect one garden waste bin for free, with all other collections to be charged.
Has the council thought this will be policed? Will a bin man (sorry refuge collection operative) have a clipboard with all the house numbers on it and will he monitor who has put green bins out and who has not?
What if Joe Bloggs down the street who has had his one ‘freebie’ collection and decides to put his bin outside another property will that household be charged for this?
After years of getting people to recycle materials to reduce landfill, the council now wants to charge us for the privilege. All this will achieve is an increase in fly-tipping.
As to charging for replacement of black bins and recycling boxes, the lifting gear on the council lorry broke the rim of my bin which had to be replaced.
So will I now be charged for what is not my fault?
Finally charges are going to apply to some materials at household waste sites but the council does not say which items.
I don’t know whose brainchild this was, but they can’t have thought it through.
Malcolm Ward, Shipton Road, York.
