IN THE “dog days” of August, in the middle of the holiday period, and while attention is on the Lendal Bridge trial, City of York Council has quietly slipped out a survey seeking residents’ views on the winter maintenance programme, ie grit bins and gritting routes.
The survey, which can only be completed online, indicates that major bus routes such as Bellhouse Way and Acomb Wood Drive will not be a priority for gritting, that the number of salt bins in Foxwood will be reduced to four from 11 and that shopping precincts will not be a priority with the salt bin at Foxwood Lane shops disappearing altogether.
Meanwhile £600,000 can be found to implement an unenforceable 20mph speed limit in the area. I rest my case.
