Powerless to halt ‘fracking’ for fuel
ONCE again certain people are trying to put a stop to fracking for fuel and once again they are wasting their time if they believe they can stop it happening.
Lots of people will agree with their aims, but plenty will disagree and probably even more people could not care less.
As in the miners’ strike, the Government has an army of police just waiting the call to make authorised overtime; officers from other forces have been drafted in to assist Sussex Police in the latest fracking protest, which has so far cost £750,000.
In my day I wore a buttonhole and marched to Ban The Bomb, to no avail, and when many thousands protested against the war in Iraq their opinion was ignored.
Ever since the Luddites tried to stop new textile machinery from destroying their cottage industry, workers have tried to make a difference without success.
The only protest which made a difference was when Margaret Thatcher tried to force people to pay the new poll tax which affected almost everyone and upset all the people.
No one can win if the Government has made up its mind, but if it makes you feel better, then I suppose that’s okay.

• CAN anyone tell me why Pensioners Against Fuel Poverty protested against fracking at the weekend?
Gas prices have dropped like a stone in the US, where they are benefiting hugely from this technology.
The process causes earthquakes, but these occur naturally in this type of strata, and the one in Blackpool would hardly have rippled a glass of water. The protesters must love paying high gas prices.
