THIS letter is addressed to those people on the council who are supposed to represent the good people of York.
They should stop what they are doing to our city. I have lived here all my life and these decisions they are making are just a nightmare.
Residents must not be complacent and should make their voices heard before it is too late.
We have heard the council say so many times that people who say nothing agree with their policies.
The many letters of complaint in The Press are ignored as the council has decided their way is best – based on flawed and political logic.
We could always vote them out of office. Nice thought – when are they up for re-election?
Chris Thorpe, Main Street, Wheldrake, York.
• OH NO, Neil Raw (Give bridge closure a go, August 22), you are not reading The Press enough. You say that the “antis” to the bridge closure have not proposed any alternative solution for reducing traffic, and yet these letters pages have been crammed with suggestions and solutions.
One of the most widely mentioned is to do away with all the traffic planning controls that have been implemented at the cost of the motorist, such as bus pull-ins, chicanes, bike priorities and many more.
Mr Raw likens the bridge closure to the smoking ban that was introduced and implies that it has worked well.
I am not a smoker, but please ask any publican in York if the smoking ban has helped his business and look at how many clubs and pubs and pubs have closed because of the fall-off in business now that smoking is not allowed in them.
Bob Redwood, Main Street, Askham Bryan, York.
