WHILE fully understanding the celebration of the excellent A-level results achieved by All Saints School (The Press, August 16), it was with disappointment that I read about the school’s balloon release.
Surely the school is aware of the problems caused by these balloon releases. Even using so called biodegradable balloon causes so many problems in the environment as the balloons take months or even years to break down.
Animals can mistake the balloons for food and the tags often tied to these balloons can cause animals to get entangled in them. These problems are especially significant in the marine environment.
The Marine Conservation Society is running a campaign “Don’t let go” where the problems caused by these release are explained and alternative ways of celebrating are suggested. The details can be found on the Marine Conservation Society website mcsuk.org.
