Happy memories of factory site

A few weeks ago, some correspondence was printed regarding the state of Nestlé's front buildings and gardens.
I daily pass the factory, and some action has been taken.
The grass and bushes have been trimmed, and the clocks are working, with a fresh coat of paint.
Going back in time, however, I remember the old Rowntree complex, with its own fire station, the white building known as the cardboard box, the shunting yard, the library, and the waste card for cheap chocolate. Happy days.
Now the old factory on Haxby Road looks sad and empty, the price of being run from Switzerland.
It’s now just a cog in the Nestlé machine.

My wife Sylvia worked in Black Mgic Packing. She was sent to Dunolley rest home at Scarborough for two weeks to recover from illness; with wages paid and rail fare. It was like a luxury hotel and she was one a dozen or more at the same time. They had to work hard to make their targets but her profit share paid for a new Raleigh 3 speed bike with all mod cons of the day one year. Happy days; music while you work and a marvellous canteen and theatre across the road. Workers playtime and other productions. Rowntrees provided thousands with a foundation for a good life.

Here Here, I too received the hospitality at Dunolley, Rowntree's was a great place to work, then Margaret Thatcher and her cohorts allowed it to be sold off, I hope she burns in hell.
