System at fault

IT WAS certainly a night of frustration last Sunday (Ambulances in A&E logjam, The Press, March 6).

I had cause to phone for an ambulance on behalf of my 97-year-old father at 4.45pm.

By 5pm we were at the hospital and then waited and waited and waited.

Everyone was so patient under the circumstances. The ambulance crew was fantastic and it was such a shame that having delivered us safely to the hospital, they had to hang around, especially as they were two-and-a-half hours over their shift.

But they did it all without complaint. It seems to me that the system is at fault, not the wonderful staff.
