Green attack over budget behaviour

LABOUR leader Coun James Alexander referred in the council budget debate on Thursday to the work of their Fairness Commission, yet the actions of some Labour councillors made clear their disdain for fairness in York.

Forcing through privatisation of elderly persons’ homes and other services, using the smokescreen of a laudable “living wage” to hide this attack on staff terms and conditions and the quality of care for our most vulnerable, is deplorable.

Using public schoolboy behaviour in the council chamber, talking to amendments that have already been voted down and voting to refuse to extend the time for debate by ten minutes for the third opposition amendment was despicable.

Officers spend considerable amounts of time preparing the various opposition amendments which each group used to highlight their alternative approach to managing the council in difficult times.

All three proposals should have been heard before the vote was taken.

Democracy is not served by trying to silence criticism from voices putting forward alternative approaches for the protection of council services and the creation of jobs, as proposed in our budget amendment.

Coun Andy D’Agorne, Green group leader, City of York Council.

I am against the Green idea of spending £300k locally as they are proposing, the ongoing conversion of Drax to biomass is enough for me at the moment, but am apalled that Coun. D'Agorne did not get his opportunity to propose it and the rest of his proposals, it was just 10 minutes. This is not democracy.

Me too. I can't say that I'm particularly fond of the greens but to not even be able to have their say in such an important issue is wrong. Something stinks about this. It is not democracy

Look no further than Alexander for the breakdown of democracy here.

His dictatorial style and complete disrespect for the rights of others to express their opinions is evident in not just the council chamber. This blocking tactic extends to the emails and press comments of those he fears have pertinent factual points to make, which invalidate his policies and views.

Under his leadership, with the willing politicised assistance of comrade England and officers, City of York Council has all the hallmarks of a stalinesque state.

York means business ? - yes, dirty business, by a dictator and his cabal, who think they are in North Korea !
