Films are just too loud

A GREAT film (Lincoln) was spoiled for my wife and I by the intolerable volume of the sound, particularly the 35 minutes or so of advertisements at Vue cinema.

We were not the only ones suffering. As we entered a woman said: “You need ear plugs in there, I’ve just complained about it” – as my wife and I have done previously.

But I suppose excessive volume is now part of the cinema experience. If you have to sit there with your fingers in your ear, it’s not good. It’s supposed to be entertainment not torture with potential hearing damage.

The next time you go to the pictures and see a couple sitting in front of you wearing ear defenders, it might be the missus and me.

I was dragged to see Les Mis the other week and found it too loud. Any noise above zero in Les Mis was too loud.

One of the reasons why I haven't been to the cinema for years. That and the atrocious behaviour of some of the audience.

I'll be the one laughing at the plonkers with the ear defenders on!

My good lady has dragged me to some bad films..... But crikey Les Mis was painful. I kept wanting to laugh out loud it was so ridiculous.

I remember a now very deaf work colleague saying that 15 years ago.

But you won't be able to hear yourself 'cos the king sized hearing aids plugged into your lugs will barely work.

Ignoring some of the daft comments, the letter writer has a good point. The volume levels at City Screen are painful. I hope the management take note.

There's an apt saying for this sort of thing."If it's too loud, you're too old"

Decent volume is required to overcome the "grazers" slurping, munching. Those who arrive late, those who need a pi%% every 30 minutes. It helps to distract from those annoyances.
As to the comments about damage to hearing, they will be from the same people who fly, the same people who use mobile phones, the same people who enjoyed a night club or too...basically the killjoys.
