Don’t sell any more

READING about the sale of social housing and councils having to consider putting people into private accommodation makes me wonder what we are doing selling council homes when many in our community need them.

The situation can only get worse for those on the waiting ladder. Many local authorities have already lost valuable stock, looking at Selby and York. Can we continue to go in this direction?

The solution is to build more houses; social and private.

York council's policy of blackmailing housebuilders with unworkable affordable housing targets prevents this.

They use cheating and lies in bogus reports like the one used for Get York Building to mislead the public/residents.

When will their corrupt agenda be exposed and those responsible outed and sacked ?

Mr Chapman is absolutely right.

We should start building council houses, and stop selling them. Far too many of the stock that has been sold at knock-down prices ends up in the hands of greedy buy-to-letters.

But of course that is exactly what successive Tory and Labour governments have hoped for.

Very soon we'll be back in the pre-WWI situation as regards housing, with a minority preying on the majority by charging over the odds for badfly-maintained, unhealthy, and over-crowded accommodation.

The vicious Tory/Liberal bedroom tax is just the latest manifestation of their campaign to destroy or privatise every last vestige of social housing.

What a ridulous and hysterical statement !

Social Housing Associations are buying private housebuilding busineses, and using cash meant for affordable/social housing to build private housing.

It's a thinly veiled attempt to nationalise housebuilding, by left wing politicised RSL's.

There are many things wrong with government policy concerning social housing. The right to buy should be stopped immediately, tenants rights to hand down the tenancy of the family home should be reinstated, the bedroom tax should be abolished. Also, it should really be socially unacceptable in today's society for York to accept the fact that 3,500 people can just be forgotten about on the council housing waiting list. I think one of the problems we have is a complete lack of empathy, sorry to say it but almost all participants in debates like this have never lived in social housing and have no idea what council house tenants are facing in terms of the impending social catastrophe about to be unleashed upon US.
