Britain should not just blindly follow

WE ARE told that there will be a shortage of home-produced power within two years, which means more imported gas for power stations at greater expense for all.

This must be attributed to the EU pollution rules, which state that from 2016 fossil-fuelled power stations must install equipment to further clean up emissions.

Where this is not possible, for whatever reason, mainly cost, the power station must close by 2023.

So one third of these power stations would close, reducing the home-produced electricity supply.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern countries and the rest are building coal-fired power stations at great speed.

Surely Britain should not blindly follow what the EU dictate, but should comply as and when a similar replacement energy source comes into use.

J Beisly, Osprey Close, York.

• IT IS reported that the price of gas will increase again in the summer by ten per cent.

This is said to be because two of our coal-fired power stations are due to end service very shortly.

This will mean that the UK will have to buy gas on the open market, seeing as our own power supplies have begun to dwindle.

Something needs to get sorted quickly otherwise we will end up with reduced lights.

This not scaremongering, but our power stations are coming to the end of their working lives.

To build new ones could take up to 15 years. You cannot build these in a few years.

The Government needs to get a grip quickly and give tenders out and get new power stations built.

Otherwise, it will be their fault if the lights go out.

Indeed, and if the lights don't go out it will only be by virtue of less energy being used because there will be so many more people cut off and going cold because they simply can't afford to pay the bill.
This CO2 carbon phobia from the majority of our MP's (& The BBC and Guardian) has carried on far longer than one could reasonably expect, given that there is no evidence to support man made CO2 causing global warming in the real world.
However, £3.1Billion was raised from green taxes (Fresh air) in 2011/12 and the Treasury project this rising to £6.5Billion by 2015/16. Much of this additional revenue will come from massive increases in taxation of fossil fuel in a mad attempt to make wind energy competitive. What makes this worse is that wind can't even be relied upon to generate electricity and will need a coal or gas powered back up. And that will be heavily taxed.
Shale gas should be our saviour but already the tax take on that is already being planned to offer not relief!
So, the domestic situation is bleak, even worse if you factor in a rising population and perhaps a million new homes. The industrial outlook is even worse, not only will the costs make us uncompetitive but by 2019, all businesses are expected to be zero carbon emitters. Impossible for some businesses making economic growth next to impossible.
Most of this chaos goes back to the Ed Miliband 2008 Climate Act, supported by the MP's for York Central and from the last election, Thirsk and Malton. They didn't even bother to read the impact statement showing the costs to be more than twice the benefits. Talk about band wagon!
We need to keep these power stations open, no two ways about it. It is a do or die situation brought about by political incompetence..

Its a shame CAC decided to ignore the evidence which does not support his dim-eyed view.

Which is in complete contrast to 99% of climatologists (you know the experts in this field of study):

Oh and none of that came from the BBC or the Guardian.......

I`ve tried to keep an open mind on "global warming" and things seem to be moving away from the widely accepted scenario.

The building of largely ineffective wind farms has undoubtedly contributed hugely to our carbon footprint, though.

I'd like to know where you got this 99% from Buda! It wouldn't by any chance to be a part of the new Consensus Science now would it? Hardly scientific!
Michael Crichton had this well sussed out by quoting: ' Consensus is the first refuge of scoundrels...' Look it up for the full quote.
No Global Warming since 1997 and non expected before 2017 at least. What part of NO don't you understand. It was the alarmist MET Office that quoted this statistic BTW.
I didn't ignore this evidence, I read everything on this topic including taking and gathering my own data as a long time and interested amateur meteorologist.
A question for you: What caused the long Medieval warm period?
