THANK YOU for printing in your edition of February 14 under the title “Great Expectations” my letter expressing reservations about the Press Association’s item concerning King Alfred.

Thank you, also, for amending the tone of my letter, which, on re-reading I can see was rather childish. I apologise. My concerns for the changing ways in which words are used, eg ‘wicked’, ‘iconic’, ‘fabulous’, etc, led me into intemperance.
