Let children know all about hunting

I WAS appalled to read that when a local hunt passed a primary school playing field it was considered too dangerous on health and safety grounds to let the children out of the school building (The Press, February 13).

Ever since my daughters were born, I have taken them to hunt meets, introduced them to foxhounds and let them see first-hand what goes on; they have come to no harm.

If we don’t let children see with their own eyes, how can we expect them to form a proper view?

Traditions such as hunting should be welcomed in local schools. Why can’t the head teacher ask the masters of the hunt to bring some hounds to the school and give a talk about what they do? Explain how hunting foxes is banned and explain how they drag hunt.

Let the children see it I say, don’t shut them away.

James Kerslake, York.

Yes. Traditions are very important in 21st Century Britain.

Where would we be without a daily witch ducking or heretic burning and God forbid we stop hanging black people.

I'm so glad we didn't give women the vote or allow them to drive if this is how they overreact to the imminent potential of children in their care getting ripped to pieces by blood thirsty dogs.

We should make sure that all children, from the day they are born, are exposed to as much bloody and violent ripping to shreds of defenceless animals as is possible.

Those rabbits at the beginning of the Teletubbies... lets have them shot at and set the lurchers on them in the opening sequence.

Also, drag hunting... bit gay don't you think?

Tradition, or holding on to a previous time.

Townies, how sad is your view of all of us that don't choose in towns/cities. We all get classed as thoughtless **** trolls. I pity you.

I live on a farm, nearest house is one full mile away in any direction, next house is another mile away, nearest shop is 6 miles away.

Your point is invalid.

Who's the thoughtless troll now?

This man obviously knows nothing about primary school children what a ridiculous letter. Children can form a propper view when older and in secondary school where such things can be debated but to say children aged 4-11 should see such sights is downright obscene

Political correctness has gone mad.

When my kids were young we could take them to see the local terrier boys setting their terriers and lurchers onto the local badgers.

We all enjoyed the sport, including the badgers.

Then those lilly livered socialists led by Thatcher brought in the Protection of Badgers act, and ever since it has been illegal to smear our children's faces in badger blood.

It's time we got back to teaching our children useful rural crafts, rather than stuff they will never use again such as science and maths.
