Minster right place
12:28pm Saturday 16th February 2013 in Letters By Reader's letter
WHERE is the dilemma? King Richard III spent the best part of his life in Yorkshire. His supporters in 1483 put on a “second” coronation for him in York Minster.
Why should the last Yorkist king of England be interred anywhere else but the fair city of York?
If he is laid to rest in unimpressive Leicester Cathedral, I am wholeheartedly against it.
I have the happiest memories of my time in the Richard III Society (Norfolk branch), and I wish Richard every blessing in his quest for a fitting final resting place. Loyaulte me lie!
Aled Jones, Mount Crescent, Bridlington.

As are the two York MPs and the leader of the City of York Council. Unfortunately we have been let down by the Archbishop of York and the Minster authorities, but that could change.

So the Minster's refusal of Richard the third is a legal defence to a document they signed so it's understandable they said no.

Too many assumptions, what evidence is there that anyone at York Minster signed a document giving burial rights to Leicester, and if they did which I doubt, what right did they have to do it without consultation with the closest living descendants?
