No need to be so rude
11:35am Friday 15th February 2013 in Letters By Reader's letter
HOW I enjoyed residents’ weekend. As a life-long resident of such a fine city, it’s a distinct pleasure to be a tourist for a weekend.
My enjoyment was marred, however, by the actions of a young woman at Clifford’s Tower. Seemingly a misprint in the booklet failed to mention a minimal charge of £1 for residents. That’s quite acceptable.
However, this woman was aggressive, abusive and threatening toward the staff over this. It gave a terrible impression to the people queuing behind, as well as holding us all up.
As far as I’m concerned the staff were pleasant, apologetic and helpful and were working hard, no doubt for no extra pay.
This young woman should be ashamed of her actions. I used to run a shop in York and if a customer had behaved like that to me or my staff, I’d have banned them permanently.
We must remember that residents’ weekend is a perk and not a right. Other cities don’t do this.
Gloria Taylor, Rawcliffe Lane, York.

Exactly. Lots of York Residents don't get to go to things on Residents Weekend because they have to come in on their days off to man the extra events which are put on for a city which has more than its fair share of whining Daily Mail readers.

Acomb or Tang Hall?
What an incredibly myopic attitude. Maybe you should have a stroll through the areas to which you refer and repeat your astonishing assertion. Hopefully a swift punch up the bracket will ensue!
