Pothole priorities

HAS City of York Council never heard of the saying “a stitch in time saves nine”? If the small potholes in our roads are not repaired as a matter of urgency, they will very quickly become larger, requiring more extensive repair, or even resurfacing. Where is this money to come from?

The council should get its priorities right. It is too late to stop the expenditure on all new furniture for the new offices, and frivolities such as Coun James Alexander’s trip to Paris to publicise the Tour de France, but such profligacy must stop now. For a start, the £600,000 earmarked for the unwanted 20mph limit in Woodthorpe should be redirected towards road maintenance. I am quite sure that there are other grandiose schemes in the pipeline that could also be cancelled in favour of essential repairs.

Mrs GM Page, Gale Lane, Acomb, York.
