THE political storm over whether we stay as a member of the EU seems to have overshadowed other important issues.
However, a referendum in the end will only delay a final decision; Parliament will have the last say.
Sir Winston Churchill made a poignant statement on a common market issue, saying, “We should be part of Europe, not of it.”
We may be only a small island, but lest we forget our Common-wealth of nations borne on centuries of discovery by our ancestors, although not without many drawbacks, warts and all, produces a family of nations, democracy, rule of law and trade round the globe.
When one considers the cuts in our armed forces, during two world wars our Commonwealth neighbours gave their lives in defence of the mother country and kept the home fires burning with a workforce employed in the NHS and other important public services.
