So inappropriate

FOLLOWING the article in The Press of January 26 expressing concern and disapproval of small children being paraded in so-called pageants, it seemed unfortunate that a report in Monday’s paper gave further publicity to the event in Dunnington.

This competition is one more invention brought over from America which would be better ignored and outlawed before it does more damage to the innocent tiny tots pushed into being shown off in make up and inappropriate dress in order to satisfy ambitious parents.

I completely agree. Pageants are appallingly sexist and degrading. It teaches girls and women that they need to care about how they look more than anything else and that their role in society is to be pretty and attractive. No doubt that this causes eating disorders and low self-esteem.
