ISN’T it time that the whole arts industry, including York Theatre Royal, was brought into the real world?

Opera, ballet and paintings are only patronised by a small number of the population. Why should government and local councils subsidise this minority activity? If they cannot attract enough customers by charging a ticket price that makes them economical, they must face the consequences without taxpayers’ support.

I don’t expect outside subsidy when paying the going rate to watch the many fine comedians who come to the Grand Opera House every year. Public money should never be used to fund the evening entertainment that many of our leaders like to be seen at.
