Seeking Mathesons
12:01pm Thursday 24th January 2013 in Letters By Reader's letter
I AM researching my family history and would be grateful if any of older readers could assist me with their recollections.
My family, the Mathesons, lived at 12 Cemetery Road, Fishergate, York, from 1939 until 1966. The head of the family was John (Jock) Matheson, a farrier major in the Cavalry based in York.
He and his wife, Margaret, had a family of three sons. John, killed on D-Day serving with the 6th Airborne, William (my father) who fought at Monte Cassino, and Donald, who served in the Royal Navy.
I would appreciate any information regarding my aunt Peggy who I believe served in the WAAF during the Second World War, and her two sisters, Muriel and Sheila, and their descendants.
I can be phoned on 01924 283359 or contacted at the address below.
Sam Matheson, 1 Clifton Close, Horbury, Wakefield, WF4 6JJ.
