DR J WILSON (Letters, January 19) need not worry when the Tour leaves York on July 6.

Because when the stage starts, the first few kilometres are under a neutralised zone where no racing actually takes place. They will roll out of the city at a fairly sedate pace until the flag signalling the end of the neutralised zone (possibly the outer ring road?).

So there will not be a speeding peloton racing through any proposed 20mph areas.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in putting together a successful bid and bringing the start of the Tour to Yorkshire.

I Wells, Howe Hill Road, Holgate, York.
