Verses on vileness

First published in Letters by

After the Crown Prosecution Service’s apologies to the many victims of Jimmy Savile I was moved to write the following.

As vile as it sounds
we do have some grounds
to be optimistic.
In the future it may
be much easier to say
when you’ve been molested.
Celebrity’s no excuse
for a regime of abuse,
you should think again.
We are all more aware
of the victims’ nightmare
and their ongoing pain.
Five decades of disbelief
cast aside with some relief
but too late for real justice.
So we need to listen
to every alleged victim.
As vile as this is.
