Sitting comfortably

WHEN council tax bills go up, as they undoubtedly will, I am sure it will be of great comfort to us all to know council staff in their nice shiny offices will be sitting comfortably on their wonderful, brand new, fully adjustable chairs (The Press, January 5).

Presumably they will have a choice too, as there will be 1,067 more chairs than bums to go on them, and a “one seat per person arrangement” is not possible.

Incidentally, how does a desk or chair become unfit for purpose, unless a leg falls off?

Okay, a jokey letter. But as one who has worked in many large organisations private and public, I've seen that it's cheaper overall to replace office equipment at fixed intervals regardless of condition. Charities then benefit from the castoffs.

And that's got to be better than putting rock salt in the bins during icy weather? It's not as if there are as many bins now either.
I just hope they can account for this refurbishment better than they could for that useless wind turbine that went wrong.
I can't even find a scrap value for it!
