The thin of it

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the students at the Joseph Rowntree School, New Earswick, who have had the good sense to challenge York retailers who promote, through photographic images, “only thin airbrushed models in their shop windows” (The Press, December 28).

They are so right to campaign against the negative message that this conveys to the average person and the resulting lack of ‘body confidence’.

Fortunately, when I was young, there was not so much emphasis on body size and shape, so we were much more accepting of our differences, and I suggest that fewer people suffered from eating disorders.

Also, those at City of York Council who are supporting the pupils’ campaign are to be gratefully acknowledged.

How many York retailers have responded to the challenge to show more realistic, life-like images I wonder?

Let’s all get behind these sensible young campaigners.

Janet Rowntree, The Dower House, Escrick, York.

but there bodies are airbrushed not to make them look thin, but to stop them looking like they eat a poisonous western dairy fueled diet.

get on google and look for vegan body builders and vegans in general and they will be thinner than those models and yet healthier than the lot of us!

case point in general, google ' freelea ' and if you think the vegan way is wrong, she would love to hear from you.....

modern foods kill. modern foods cause health issues. modern food is big business...

Nobody wants to see some fugly bruiser's photo in a shop window when they walk past it on their way to work though.

That's depressing.

I would like to thank you on behalf of our group for your kind words of encouragement. It means a lot that the public support us on this campaign as it is only with your help that this can be successful. Again, thank you, from Lucy, Alison, Megan, and Molly.
