I AM surprised that your Letters Page has not featured any views on the results of the 2011 National Census.

Immigration is one of the most relevant topics for a vast number of UK citizens. None of the major parties will dare to discuss it with voters, but UKIP is thriving due to the figures released. We now live in the most densely populated country in Europe, and the fourth most dense in the world. Only about 40 per cent of our capital city’s population are white English.

There are more than half a million Poles living in London. Yorkshire has, after London, the biggest increase in Asian people living within her boundaries. Soon a vast number of Bulgarians and Romanians will come to live in the UK.

It is almost forbidden to raise concerns about immigration, and trying to get items published or discussed or even thought about is virtually impossible. Christianity has had to take a back seat in the UK, whereas Islam is promoted and is expanding rapidly.

Many of us, I would guess at millions, of English folk have been warning against unchecked immigration for 40 years or more, and now we feel like “foreigners in our own country”. Social tensions will soon lead to social explosions. Enough is enough – we must leave the EU now.

David Quarrie Lynden Way, Holgate, York.

Some days I really do struggle to feel as terrified as I'm supposed to at the prospect of a rise in residents of foreign origin. I even find it difficult to be scared of English-born people with brown faces. Even that Dale Winton seems nice.

I'm just useless at this sort of thing but I hope, David, you can find some like-minded people to discuss this with. Not bigots. We don't call them bigots now. Not since that business with Gordon.

York's black/ethnic minority has grown from c.8,200 in 2000 to 23,000 in 2012. That is an increase of 180%, compared with the 5% increase in the rest (white indigenous). In 2000 the B/E minority was 4.6% of York's population and is now 11.6%.

All good news, as it will bring multiculturalism and diversity to York. Also good for jobs and housing, which will be needed for our increasing immigrant population. Coun Crisp will be tweeting in celebration.

"It is almost forbidden to raise concerns about immigration"

On the contrary, it's almost impossible to open a newspaper without reading some bigoted comment about non-English people.

Mr Quarrie has been airing these opinions in the Press for decades, and is yet to find much significant support.

Perhaps for the majority of us, immigration isn't the "most relevant topic" his fevered imagination believes?

Perhaps most of us realise that it isn't the Poles that are closing accident & emergency departments, that it isn't Asians who are slashing care for the disabled, the sick, and the elderly, and that it isn't the Bulgarians who are forcing unemployed people to work without wages for the likes of Tesco, Argos, and Debenhams.

Most of us perhaps realise that the guilty parties originate a bit closer to home, many on the playing fields of Eton.

3m net immigrants came into the UK under Labour. Hardly DC's fault ?

That puts a lot of pressure on schools, hospitals and housing

Quarrie: a Norman French nickname for a thickset, or portly man and derives from the word "quare", meaning square-shaped

Surely not the same D Quarrie whose British Movement collar badge was a feature of Acomb Hockey Club for so many years? Dave is like a slowly collapsing building wrong on so many levels.

Maybe some of those 'unchecked' immigrants could help you with your 'unchecked' sentence construction?

It's been a week for chuckles. Farange's wife turned out to be German. An ancestor of his came from an area within Frances borders (ooh, funny that as so did one of mine, five generations ago) Also the leader of the EDL, who has been constantly **** about immigration, was just locked up for illegally crossing borders.

I wonder if we ought to poll the local tattoo artists to find out how many shaven headed, Doc Marten wearing members of our community have been coming in and getting daggers and swastikas applied on various parts of their bodies? Judging by the odd NF sticker applied to street furniture down Foxwood, they do exist, however in small numbers.

Pimpernel, you can stick your diversity and multiculturalism where the sun doesn't shine.
No this isn't some racist rant. Most people can accept people from other parts of the world settling here, that is not the issue. What is the issue is coming here with own language, own culture and own religion, in other words a parallel community. A self imposed apartheid.
This will end up in big trouble, believe me.
If we were all at one and British there would be little problem. Why don't you check out duel nationality, a real test of split or no allegiance!

The key word I missed out above was integration, that is what is needed.

Talking of refugees and alleged global warming. The IPCC had it on their site, up to the 2011 census results that millions of people would have to move because of climate change! They even provided a map to show where all these people would vanish from by 2010.
They quickly took it down once they found out the populations in all these areas increased by the time of the census. More Climate change hoax exposed!

I remember a comment somebody made a while back about seeing a streetlight getting replaced, they mentioned it was a black guy who did the work, and the person thought this was unusual for York. I don't really notice to be honest because I've grown up with people of different ethnicities throughout school and college... in fact there was a friendship between myself and a pakistani child simply because we both stayed out of RE lessons in school as we had our own beliefs, which in some parts were quite similar.

I think comments were disabled for the census article simply because there was too much that people could have started up arguments about - even just on religion.

Does Mr Quarrie have a view on the number of British "immigrants" making parts of Spain apparently akin to a 'Costa del Blackpool' and the similar Brit "invasion" of parts of the Dordogne?

Buda, you do not surprise me because you even appear to see freezing weather as warming.
Let me tell you about a very large Somali family that gained immigration to Denmark. (EU) They found there was only one culture in Denmark so moved to London where they could continue to live as Somali's.
I can tell you also about a man that came from the Punjab in 1952 and to this day can't speak English.
Integration, if that is racist then so be it. Incidentally, I believe Cllr Crisp has Danish links.

I read these comments with a sense of ruefulness. Growing up in London 25 years ago I too used to feel the same way as posters here. When immigrants and minorities numbered 1 in 10 and were fully integrated I was the first to call anyone expressing disquiet a racist, a bigot, a fascist. Yet now I feel on shakier ground.

The figure is now 6 out of 10 and I've seen the effects first hand. There is no host culture any more in London and therefore nothing for newcomers to belong to. Nothing to integrate with. There is no social cohesion and no sense of community. You can go an entire day without hearing English spoken. It feels very alien, not just to me but to the immigrants themselves who are also surrounded by overwhelming diversity. The youth of London, who have known no different, experience an incredible sense of unbelonging which they cannot even account for. I feel most sorry for them.

I imagine in York, as in other outlying areas of England, you are currently going through the 1 in 10 experience, or maybe even the 2. Fully integrated immigrants bringing "vibrancy" to drab uptight England. But soon things will change and I wonder how gleefully you will be tossing words like bigot, and racist around when you too feel the same sense of dislocation. Good luck with that.

Crisp and calamity James won't be happy until York is like London or Bradford, with their inclusion policy and trying to make York a city of sanctuary for asylum seekers, they will just keep trying to import voters so they can still get their fat cat wages
