Show pampered players the door
9:00am Saturday 5th January 2013 in Letters By Reader's letter
IN THE same week that the Queen paid tribute to our Olympic athletes for their dedicated hard work and team spirit, and many of them were deservedly awarded in The New Year Honours, Sir Alex Ferguson was complaining because he was having to rotate his £50,000,000-worth of first team players because they had to play four matches in ten days.
At 90 minutes a game, that works out at six hours work.
These are fit young men, mostly in their 20s, paid between £100,000 and £250,000 a week.
Compare that with their fans, factory workers, tradesmen, miners and forces serving in Afghanistan, some working a 40-hour week and not earning in five years what they get in a week.
I’d rotate 'em Fergie – right out the gate.
