With honours?
9:31am Wednesday 2nd January 2013 in Letters By Reader's letter
AFTER trying to avoid the news over Christmas, I was greeted on opening The Press on Saturday with the fact that vice-chancellor Brian Cantor is to get a CBE for leading the University of York through a “dynamic period of growth”.
That dynamic period could be adding to the carbon footprint, adding to energy usage and adding to pollution.
How do these people sleep at night; how do they get nominated for destroying the beautiful Yorkshire countryside?
Such a pity he was not more dynamic in encouraging the development on brown-field sites, providing jobs where jobs used to be and all the while saving the environment.
Sally Hawkswell, Heslington, York.

In a nutshell it is suggested that any activity we make carries a carbon footprint, that goes for goods and services too. So if we walk somewhere the footprint will be low and if we go by aircraft it will be high. Didn't stop all these warmers flying to Doha last Month though!
The Carbon footprint of a Toyota hybrid made in Japan and imported here must be sky high and yet it pays no road tax! And yet a Land Rover built here pays a fortune including a show room tax before you even drive a mile. Talk about supporting British workers!
I'm sure you can work out the rest for yourself. Some additional info as to how we got here posted below in a long link.

However, as soon as you mention this invisible carbon footprint, your argument disintegrated.
The green belt needs protecting from any kind of development and that includes giant wind turbines. Once it has been destroyed you are not likely to get it back. We are making lots more people but no more land.
Carbon footprints are a distraction as a part of UK / EU self destruction.
USA, China, India, Canada, Russia and I believe Japan are not signed up to the latest Kyoto treaty.
So, what was all that carbon footprint to Doha last Month all about then, including all those that went in the December's before.
Hot air perhaps or a Jolly for the warmers?
