Scripture has answers
10:03am Thursday 27th December 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
THE answer to RS Pearson’s question (Letters December 14), about the role ofwomen spreading the gospel is clearly given in the scriptures.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16).
The scripture cannot be broken. (John 10:35).
Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted unto them to speak, but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also says the law. If they will learn anything let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35).
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. I suffer not a woman to teach nor to usurp authority, over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve, and Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2:11-14).

...except by another bit of contraditory scripture, in which case you can choose the bit that best justifies your own prejudice.

I wonder if K Mellor stands around outside churches doing genital inspections to make sure no-one with testicular cancer gets in.

Reading this kind of prehistoric guff makes me so glad I have never had the slightest desire to support any religion.
