I refer to the letter “Ban the presents” in yesterday’s edition of The Press.
Last week I attended a meeting and found myself sitting next to two teachers who were commenting on the absurdity of all the Christmas cards and gifts they receive. They actually found it quite stressful.
I suggested to them that in future instead of bringing cards and gifts the pupils be asked to donate 50p (voluntarily of course) and the money sent to a charity. They thought this was an excellent idea and I hope that the pupils think so.
We have cut right back on Christmas cards as we wish everyone all the best every day, not just at Christmas. We send a donation each Christmas to the air ambulance in the hope that it may go some way to saving a life.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy 2013.
