THANKS to Tom Sweeney for submitting the photograph published as a Soap Box letter on December 7.

Contrary to the caption, the photo was taken in either 1966 or 1967 and features pupils and teachers from St George’s.

To the left of Mr Sellers is Brother Gabriel, who taught drama and ballet at the school.

My annotated photograph shows the pupils I can identify: Back left: Paul Graham (from Haxby); to the immediate left of Brother Gabriel is Julian Conlan (from Acomb); above Brother Gabriel is Damian Sellers (Ashley Park) and behind him, wearing the hat, is John Frankish.

To the far right is Kevin Wilson (Holgate), who died while mountaineering in Scotland in the 1980s.

If anyone recognises any of those youthful faces, please let me have the names.

The photographer who took the picture can only have been Brother Matthew, the self-appointed “recorder of events” and geography teacher.

I attended the school from 1966 until 1969 and then moved on to the Technical College in Dringhouses. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear about the recent reunion until afterwards.

I’m keen to collect and publish on the web photographs and details of the school and would encourage old boys to email me with pictures or articles they would like to contribute.

Alternately, they can be posted to the address at the end where they will be scanned and returned.
