I READ Archbishop Sentamu’s article on poverty with interest and (mostly) agreement (The Press, November 27).

However, my hackles rose at the Church’s position on the housing shortage. If the Church is so concerned, why doesn’t it solve the problem? It would be easy to use some of the massive amount of land it owns (including in York), and the cost of substantial house building a drop in the ocean compared to an investment portfolio in excess of £5 billion.

The archbishop seems a genuine philanthropist even though he represents, in my view a hypocritical Church of England, and let us not forget that Dr Sentamu earns £55,000 and lives in a palace.
