ONE evening at 7.30 we were visited by two very pushy young men asking us to commit a regular donation to UNICEF.

They explained themselves very clearly and nearly persuaded us to part with £10 a month.

Only when I turned over the receipt form and read the very small print did I discover that they were collecting on behalf of an organisation, Appco Group Support, who are paid a fee for raising money for UNICEF. The current estimated fee is £1,426,483.

This seems rather a lot before UNICEF’s children in need get their share. Readers might want to consider more direct ways of supporting this worthy cause.
