THE story of Coun Lynn Jeffries and her recovery from a diabetic coma (The Press, November 24) reminds us of the work the diabetic unit does in York.

All in the various sections of the hospital provide excellent care and check-ups and support for this medical condition to be stabilised, alongside various GP surgeries in the city Every day someone somewhere joins the list of those diagnosed as diabetic. The worry for many diabetics is loosing these essential services on which our lives depend.

My applause goes out to the York and District Diabetic Group, which raises money for research in the hope of finding a cure.

The group meets at York Hospital on the first Wednesday of every month. If you would like to attend, email yorkdiabetes@hotmail.co.uk or phone Sue Smith on 01904 690218.
