Ridiculous idea

YORK’S very own “Mr Cycles”, Paul Hepworth, is in favour of the ridiculous idea of a short stretch of bus lane along part of Boroughbridge Road, which will cost a lot but benefit very few.

He was also in favour of the unbelievably stupid cycle track along the side of Clifton Green, which cost thousands of pounds and is still half-baked.

These road ‘‘improvements’’ are about as daft as City of York Council refusing to top up salt bins this winter, but agreeing to have ‘‘free’’ wi-fi in the city centre.

Prudent austerity policy and plans? I think not.

David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Holgate, York.

Yes Mr Quarrie.
Just like your view that the police shouldn't waste resources catching serial killers if they are only murdering drug addicts and prostitutes.

I was going to say something similar myself.

The Clifton Green cycle lane is only half-baked because the council listened to a bunch of whining motorists who didn't like cycles whizzing past them in the queue, and thusly removed the most important part of the cycle lane. Alone that wouldn't have fixed the traffic tailbacks so the council has fiddled with the traffic light timings and has now messed up the synchronisity of these lights with the ones at the end of Rawcliffe Lane, leading to longer queues on the A19.... essentially they're playing a massive game of swings and roundabouts.
